Paul Krassner (April 9, 1932 – July 21, 2019) was an influential author, journalist, activist, and comedian who played a central role in the 1960s counterculture, after founding The Realist and co-founding the Yippies. Hs close association with Lenny Bruce shaped his sharp, satirical approach. After working for Mad Magazine, Krassner launched The Realist in 1958, a publication that became a voice for the counterculture and the Underground Press. Throughout his career, Krassner wrote a dozen books, contributed to publications like Playboy and Hustler, and performed standup comedy that challenged societal norms.
